Leader - University of Western Attica (UNIWA)

The University of Western Attica was created in 2018 as a result of the merge of TEI Athens and Piraeus University of Applied Sciences. The initiative to set up the new university was considered important from academic, economy and social aspects and was welcomed by all the relevant stakeholders. Uni.W.A. consists of five schools and twenty-six departments. The department of Industrial Design and Production Engineering is the only university department in Greece that provides higher education in the Textile and Apparel sector. The department of IDPE is member of International Textile Academia, AUTEX (Association of Universities of Textiles) and IAF (International Apparel Federation).

Ghent University (Ugent)

Ghent University was established in 1817 and has 11 faculties, which offer high quality and research-based educational programmes in almost each scientific discipline. Currently there are about 9000 staff members and over 44000 students. More than 10% of the student population is international. The university is very active on the international scene and scores high in the international rankings.

The Centre for Textile Science and Engineering CTSE (formerly: Department of Textiles, established 1929) is responsible for education, research and industry services in textiles. 4 professors lead a team of more than 40 people with international and multidisciplinary background. CTSE is one of the pioneers in smart textiles and electrospinning.

Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV)

Universitat Politècnica de València is a public Higher Education Institution actively involved in international cooperation and mobility projects. UPV hosts over 34,000 students and employs over 4,800 people (teaching, research, administrative, services staff). It is the first technological university in Spain according to international rankings and offers 35 undergraduate programmes, 80 official Master’s degrees and 30 Doctorate programmes. Even though UPV focuses mainly on Engineering studies, it also hosts a Faculty of Fine Arts and a Faculty of Business Administration and Management. GIITEX Research group from Universitat Politècnica de València is a dynamic group which research lines are mainly focused on supplying textile companies some assessment or cooperation in order to improve their competitiveness by means of performing new processes or developing new products. Universitat Politècnica de Valencia ranks #1 regarding the number of MOOC’s produced (openeducationeurope.eu) and has developed several well-known e-learning products. It offers MOOC courses that can be audited free or students can choose to receive a verified certificate for a small fee.

Universiti Teknologi MARA (MARA)

Universiti Teknologi MARA is a public university based primarily in Shah Alam, Malaysia. Established in 1956 as RIDA (Rural & Industrial Development Authority) Training Centre, it opened to some 50 students with a focus to help the rural Malays. Since that time it has grown into the largest higher education institution in Malaysia by physical infrastructure, staff organisation (academic and non-academic), and student enrolment. The university comprises one main campus and 34 state campuses. With 17,488 academic and non-academic staff, UiTM offers over 500 programmes ranging from foundation to postgraduate level. It is home to some 170,514 bumiputera and international students, in full-time and part-time modes. Teaching is fully conducted in English.  

The programme began with a diploma course (Diploma in Textile Technology) in 1974 and in the year of 2000, the degree programme (BSc (Hons.) Textile Technology) was offered followed by Masters and PhD. In 2017, the degree programme has been rebranded as BSc (Hons.) Textile Science and Fashion Technology. Students from this degree programme will have an opportunity to pursue their study in Double Degree. Double degree is a programme involves studying two degrees in different areas for a shorter duration. For Double degree, students can choose from the following options, 1) BSc (Hons.) Textile Science and Fashion Technology and Bachelor of Textile Design (Hons) or 2) BSc (Hons.) Textile Science and Fashion Technology and Bachelor of Fashion Design (Hons). In addition, the programme has been accredited by the Textile Institute, an independent and renowned textile body in Manchester, United Kingdom. The programme has been producing graduates that work in the textile and apparel industries. The graduates have also established themselves in textile, retailing, fashion and garment sectors, entrepreneurs, technologists, engineers and researchers.

Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM)

UTHM is one of the public universities in Malaysia primarily focusing on Engineering and Technology. UTHM have two campuses which are in Parit Raja and Pagoh, Johor. UTHM’s vision is “Towards a world class university in engineering, science and technology for sustainable development ”. It aims are to generate and disseminate knowledge, to meet the needs of industry and community and nurturing creative and innovative human capital, based on the tauhidic paradigm. UTHM is in the direction to become a future sustainable technological university.

Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Industrial Textiles) programme is under the Faculty of Engineering Technology. The faculty is currently operating in Pagoh Education Hub, Johor, which is the largest public education hub area in Malaysia. The engineering technology programme is structured to be more practical biased than the conventional science based engineering degree programme elsewhere.  The career prospect of engineering technologist covers a broad spectrum in engineering field from product development, manufacturing, construction, improvement to optimization of its operational functions. Students from this couse are exposed to practical-based training throughout the 4-year programme with weightage of 60% practical and 40% theory.

Politeknik STTT Bandung, Indonesia (STTT)

Politeknik STTT Bandung is a university of applied science in textile technology affiliated with the Indonesian Ministry of Industry. Originally established in 1922 as an educational and training institution in textile technology and for batik testing/evaluation, the institution has developed and experienced major changes in terms of organization as well as curriculum peaking to a full four-year study program in the late 1960’s. The last change took place in 2014 following the issuance of a new regulation in the new Indonesian Education Law, which requires STTT to change its name to Politeknik STTT Bandung confirming the nature of its educational philosophy in the area of applied science and its focus in practices for the creation of highly skilled graduates. The polytechnic has three departments with a degree in Bachelor of Applied Science, i.e.:  

(1) Textile Engineering;  
(2) Textile Chemistry; and  
(3) Garment Production plus there a concentration of Fashion Design and one master degree, i.e.: Master of Applied Science in Textile Engineering and Apparel Technology.

Faculty of Visual Art and Design, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB)

Institut Teknologi Bandung or Bandung Insitute of Technology or Institute of Technology Bandung, was founded on March 2, 1959. The present ITB main campus is the site of earlier engineering schools in Indonesia. Although these institutions of higher learning had their own individual characteristics and missions, they left influence on developments leading to the establishment of ITB. ITB also claimed as institution of higher learning of science, technology, and fine arts, with a mission of education, research, and service to the community. With mission to innovate, share, and apply science, technology, art and humanity and to produce excellent human resources for better Indonesia and the world.

Craft program study as one of program study from Faculty of Visual Art and Design – ITB  is a scientific field that studies the knowledge, skills and creativity of visual art, which starts from a medium approach, aesthetic sensitivity, daily needs (utilitarian) and relies on manual skills (manual dexterity). The work of the craft is prioritized containing values of conceptual uniqueness, themes, imaginative, emotional and sensory (visual, tactile, olfactory). Craft is also a method of working while designing products that prioritize the values of aesthetic, functional, uniqueness, themes, meanings and philosophical messages. Craft at ITB is more focused on science and skills in creating concepts, forms and styles in the broad sense in the creative industry. Kriya's works which are designed to be more exclusive have added value on various sides, because in the manufacturing process they rely on handmade techniques. In the final stages of studio courses, students are more directed towards cooperation with other scientific disciplines such as chemistry, electrical engineering, biology, architecture, interior and management and the others.

Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU)

Bahauddin Zakariya University is a public university with its main campus in Multan, Pakistan. Bahauddin Zakariya University was founded in 1975 as Multan University, and is one of the largest universities in Punjab. It was renamed in honour of a Sufi saint Hazrat Baha-ud-din Zakariya (1171-1262). As a degree awarding government university, it offers degree courses in more than 60 majors, including pharmacy, engineering, humanities, business administration, law, art, music, IT, agriculture and languages. According to newly published 2016-2017, Times Higher Education Ranking System, Bahauddin Zakariya University is ranked within Top 800 most powerful universities worldwide. In 2014, The university was also ranked 8th nationally by General Universities Category of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.

NED University of Engineering & Technology (NED)

The Nadirshaw Eduljee Dinshaw University of Engineering and Technology, commonly known as NED University of Engineering and Technology is a premier public university located in the urban area of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It is one of the oldest universities in Pakistan founded Parsi landowner Nadirshaw Eduljee Dinshaw.  

Founded in 1921, as NED Government Engineering College, to provide training to civil engineers working in building the Sukkur Barrage, the university came to its modern form after being established by the British government and was renamed in 1977. The university is named after its benefactor Nadirshaw Eduljee Dinshaw. The university offers programmes in engineering, science, and architecture for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral studies.  It is a member of Association of Commonwealth Universities of the United Kingdom.  

The university is spread across three campuses; the main campus, the city campus, and the LEJ campus.
